One of the oldest applications for drones is aerial surveillance, initially adopted by the military but later commercialized by other private enterprises. Aerial surveillance using drones is cheaper and faster than many other methods previously utilized. Drones are hard to detect, creating an opportunity for extended monitoring. With drones becoming more available and the price of the technology falling, entities such as civil defense, ministries of interior, and border security begun adopting drones for aerial surveillance. The technology assists such entities in their daily activities by reducing manpower required to surveil areas and increasing the visibility of such locations.
